Sae Heum Han

Sae Heum Han is a LA-based electronic music composer and producer.

Classically trained, his musical journey began during his childhood in South Korea studying cello and, after his move to the US, playing in orchestras and other various ensembles.

While attending Berklee College of Music to study Electronic Production and Design, Han started composing experimental electronic music under the moniker mmph, releasing two EPs through cult label Tri-Angle Records that were melodically focussed, orchestrally informed and rhythmically driven.  In 2023, seeking to explore the sounds of traditional Korean music coupled with modern electronic production, Han released his third EP ‘Harvest’, via Shanghai label SVBKVLT.

Alongside his artist work as mmph, Han scored the 2019 feature Saving Zoe, as well as working as an assistant composer for TV shows including, The Enemy Within (NBC), Search Party (HBO), and, most recently, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV).

He has created the music for Apple’s Shot on iPhone “Experiments” series along with other campaigns for the brand, and scored films for Nike’s iconic Jordan range.  In 2023, Han was commissioned to score a dance piece for BVLGARI in collaboration with artist and choreographer, Madeline Hollander, and the performance debuted in Shanghai at the BVLGARI Gala.

As a collaborator, Sae has produced and worked alongside artists including serpentwithfeet, Perfume Genius, Lauren Auder, and David Byrne on his acclaimed ‘American Utopia’ album.   His official remix credits include works by artists such as HAIM, Perfume Genius, Model/Actriz, and Miss Grit.
